Zoe reached the jeep before Ellie and pointed at the plain white postcard under the windscreen wiper. ‘What’s that?’

They were on their way to their cleaning job.

‘Hopefully it’s a flyer for that flipping new cleaning company. Grab it up, lovey, will you? At least we’ll know what they say now.’

Zoe lifted the wiper and extracted the card. She read the text. ‘You’d better call Dad.’ She snapped a pic of the message with her phone and passed the card to her mum. ‘It’s a death threat.’

On one side, it said, ‘Ellie Blix’.

On the other side, there was a message. Ellie read the words, barely able to take them in.

‘You need to learn when to quit. It would be awful if you ended up like Robert Seale.’

A wave of nausea swept over Ellie and her legs went weak. She grabbed Zoe’s arm. ‘That’s horrible.’ Shaking, she teased one of Rebus' poo bags out of her pocket and stuffed it at Zoe. ‘There might be prints on it.’ Her voice was barely audible. 'Stick it in this.’

It would be awful if you ended up like Robert Seale.

Ellie leant against the car and dialled Dave’s mobile number.
